Like yes, semantically it only really states the speaker’s feelings towards the addressee and that is how it is to be understood and translated, but… what if the usage implies that the feelings are believed to be mutual? I mean, yeah, most pet names already imply that by default, but knowing as little about Ancient Tevene as we do, the canon cultural- and etymological context is murky at best. It definitely denotes the masculine form, in a nominative case, but it leaves me wondering if this potential to maybe act as a subject could make the word a bit of a pragmatic two way street. At least I think I remember reading about how in some words, it can act as an agent suffix.

While it IS most likely “beloved”, with however little I remember about Latin conjugation, the “-us” suffix isn’t necessarily an adjectival suffix? Like, not always. The definite meaning of “amatus” still confuses me a bit.

which brings me to a half-baked headcanon I’ve been sitting on for a while, so I hope you don’t mind if I share that? :) I just looked through my recorded cutscenes, and if you ask him for a kiss before having slept together, all he says is “’I need to talk to you’, he says… have it your way, but let’s go where a hundred onlookers won’t think I’m stealing the Inquisitor’s soul.”, so there is no pet name there yet :) But tbh, whenever he starts, it’s stupidly adorable nonetheless. Anyway, the make out option becomes available after that and Dorian uses amatus there so either way he pretty much starts using it immediately

I don’t remember seeing it in all of my playthroughs though. (2/2) Oh wait, my last message might have been wrong! I seem to remember a convo where the inquisitor can say he’s interested in Dorian and wants to get to know him better.
